Is animal testing ethical or unethical?

Is animal testing ethical or unethical?

Using animals for doing some scientific research especially in medical treatment is a highly debated topic nowadays. Animal testing is also known as the use of animals for scientific experiments. Some people say it is ethical while others say it is unethical. Proponents of this topic believe that animal testing is very necessary and it has a lot of advantages. However, opponents of this subject claim that animal testing is unfair and it has several disadvantages. In this essay, I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using animals in doing scientific research.

There are a lot of advantages of animal testing. First of all, animal testing can help scientists to find the best drugs and treatments to improve health and medicine. For example, human organ transplants can be done easily after trying it on animals.  In addition, animal testing is the most accurate way to learn about the effects of substances and drugs upon a living body. Animal testing can be used to ensure the safety of drugs and other substances. Moreover, animal testing doesn’t only save human lives but also animals’ lives. Scientists can reach the best medicine for treating humans and animals. Finally, many of the medications and procedures that we currently use today wouldn’t exist without animal testing.

On the other hand, there are some disadvantages of animal testing. The first point is that animals undergoing testing can be subjected to torture and suffering. The second point is that animals sometimes die in the process of animal testing. The third point is that animal testing is not ethical and is unfair. It is only ethical to test on subjects who willingly give their consent for self testing. The last point is that animals are different than people, thus their testing results are not always be useful or practical for human comparisons.

In conclusion, animal testing has some pros and cons. Supporters of animal testing stand for it while objectors stand against it. I think that animal testing is unfair and it has to be stopped. Animals have their rights to live freely and all people should protect them. I recommend that more attention and due care must be given to the life of animals.
